Food will be provided. If you know anyone who is or has been in the Spanish dual language program, invite them!

New Member Induction

To be eligible for the October induction, you must have completed a minimum of one full year (two semesters) of Spanish study, have maintained an excellent academic record (received only As and Bs), and have completed projects in the categories of ambassadorship, service to school, and/or service to your community. Honor memberships are for those students who wish to go above and beyond the regular expectations.

The purpose of the Society is to promote academic excellence in Spanish, to inspire cross-cultural acceptance and understanding in students of Spanish and to encourage service to school and community. In addition to adding to students’ portfolios of honor and service, the SHA conducts annual contests, provides awards to chapter members and makes available opportunities for publication of students’ works.

The induction ceremony will take place on October 22nd. Prior to being inducted, students must complete two (2) of the service projects listed below by Oct. 12th. Students MUST turn in the SHA service form by 4:00 on Monday, October 12th to Ms. Adkins in room 2402. The membership fee is $10.00 and the induction fee is $5.00. Upon completion of the services please submit $15.00 to the chapter treasurer or sponsor.

Service projects to be completed include the following:

-Submit an article, poem, or drawing to the chapter newsletter (must have a Hispanic theme)

-Offer services to migrant families

-Create an event where students can interact with other Spanish speakers

-Tutor ELL students or students taking Spanish

-Assist any JMS teachers to achieve 1 hour of service

We encourage taking advantage of this awesome opportunity to join the ranks of Spanish students across the nation. JMS membership will also serve as an advantage for high school membership which includes opportunities for scholarships, travel abroad, and service.

Who Are We?

¡Hola! We’re the National Junior Spanish Honor Society chapter at Jenks Middle School. The name of our chapter is Cisneros, named after Sandra Cisneros, the author of The House on Mango Street. We’re a group that volunteers to serve our school and our community. We study hispanic culture and traditions, and we all practice the Spanish language.
